Second Life Statistics: 06-Jan-2008

SL Stats 06-01-2008

Yesterday was another record peak concurrency, though barely, despite Intermittent asset server issues and Login Difficulties. As you can see in the graph Second Life was even closed for all residents for a while. Hopefully Wednesdays update will help prevent these issues.

  1. I don't understand why the "asset server" issue shows resolved. It is simply not. It only just not all the time at the moment.

  2. Hmm we'll soon reach 60k users... yay ;)

Interestingly enough, each "shard" of World of Warcraft is allegedly designed to deal with about 25 thousand users each. Their incredible concurrency (a million users) comes from the fact that they're able to shard their world. Second Life, strangely enough, is one of the largest "single world" (ie. unsharded) environments that supports such a high concurrency. But even things like Facebook have claimed to reach "a peak of 100,000 logged in users"... and, of course, Facebook is just basically a web server. So in spite of everything, 60k simultaneous users is not that bad as most people would like to make us believe...

  3. i still have difficulties logging in..and i tried to re install second life but when i started to run a msg appeared says " the installer you are trying to use is curropted or incomplete you may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain anew copy"
i have no idea what to do i ahve some job commetment in there and have to logg in as soon as posssible if any one has a solution just tell me

  4. That is true Gwyneth, sometimes we like to forget that.

Try redownloading the client, it might got some bits misplaced in download.
